Sync Sound
During this session we learnt about both Sync and Dual System Sound. Sync sound consists of the shotgun microphone being plugged directly into the camera and recording the sound this way. This way is advantageous as it allows for the audio to be directly synced to the video. These are best used during interview situations or where it is not possible to use a clapper due to lack of space.
Dual System Sound is when the boom mic is plugged into an external recording device such as a Zoom H5 or a Tascam and recorded onto there separate from the camera. To properly use this type of sound recording you will require a clapper board to be able to sync the sound of the clapper snapping and the video of the clapper striking down.
